Bomarzo

Bomarzo is a municipality in the province of Viterbo and is located in the Tiber Valley, between Lazio and Umbria. Bomarzo is famous from a tourist point of view especially for the Monster Park, also known as the Sacred Forest: it is a natural park adorned with 16th century basalt sculptures depicting monsters, deities and mythological animals. It was originally connected to the Palazzo Orsini in Bomarzo via an enormous Italian garden, so as to create a feeling of contrast in the visitor and to symbolize a sort of initiatory journey.

The most important monument of the village is Palazzo Orsini, built in the 16th century on the remains of a medieval castle, with both defensive and residential purposes. In the historic center there are religious buildings including the 15th-18th century Cathedral, which houses interesting works of art.
