Sutri

Sutri is a municipality in the province of Viterbo and is perched on an imposing tuff relief that dominates Via Cassia. Its origins are very ancient, it was probably already inhabited in pre-Etruscan times. One of the city’s greatest attractions, as well as one of the most important Italian art venues, is the Palazzo Doebbing Museum, in Piazza del Duomo. The museum takes its name from Joseph Bernard Doebbing, who was bishop of Sutri from 1900 to 1916. The Palace, home to a museum since September 2018 by will of its mayor Vittorio Sgarbi, hosts high-level exhibitions, with works by well-known masters all over the world. The Archaeological Park is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Tuscia and offers tourists a one-of-a-kind spectacle thanks to the Amphitheater, the necropolis, the Mithraeum and the thousand-year-old Etruscan sculptures. The numerous religious buildings in the historic center are of a certain artistic value. Furthermore, the village is part of the Ancient City of Sutri Regional Natural Park. In 2003, the city received the Orange Flag, the certificate of tourist and environmental quality from the Touring Club Italia and the Lazio Region.
