<< Spring was a very important season for the Etruscans, who celebrated it with festivals and rituals dedicated to the rebirth of nature and fertility. According to the Etruscan calendar, the spring equinox corresponded to March 20 or 21, and was called Thesan Tins, the dawn of Tinia, the main Etruscan deity.
On this occasion, the Etruscans paid homage to the goddess Flora, protector of flowers and vegetation, who according to mythology was originally from the Etruscan divinity Feronia.
The Etruscans organized processions, sacrifices, banquets, games and competitions in honor of Flora, and adorned themselves with garlands and crowns of flowers. Flora’s feast was also a moment of joy and sensuality, in which the passions and senses of love were exalted.>>
We have prepared the Flora festival in Tuscania for you with re-enactment, theatrical narration, visits and explanations of the sacred places, celebrating spring inspired by Etruscan culture.
